iPhone Apps You Won’t Believe

Posted by Henry Rinkle under iphone tips on Monday Jan 4, 2010

Real software development for the iPhone might lag behind, but iPhone apps come to the rescue. With over 50,000 iPhone apps being developed every month, it’s impossible to keep up on them all. Some will streamline your life, and you’ll wonder how you ever got by without them. Others will leave you wondering why anyone even bothered. Here are a few iPhone apps that are worth their hype.

Pageonce Personal Assistant – Have difficulty keeping up on all your accounts? Need to check stats and finances far away from your desktop? This iPhone app keeps all your account information on the same page. You get absolute access to all your online accounts, from investments to banking to your frequent flyer miles. Instead of juggling a dozen or so sites, the Pageonce Personal Assistant does it all with one application for easy convenience.

Fring – Really, once you’ve got this app, you’ll never need an IM tool again. This app includes Google Talk, Yahoo, Skype, MSN, Twitter, ICQ, plus VoIP calls over Wi-Fi if your minutes are low while you are spending the afternoon in a bar or coffee shop. While many iPhone apps are devoted to a particular site, this one streamlines them all into one universally.

Routesy – You can’t live in the big city without this baby in your pocket. It’s a great way to keep up on train and bus schedules, as well as tell you what to take to get where you need to be. It works even better than the computer, simple and quick. Get the information you need with this smart but efficient iPhone app.

VNC Lite – Want to turn your cell phone into your computer? VNC Lite allows you to view and fully control your computer from your cell phone, providing you are on the same network. If you thought that laptops as thin as children’s storybook was as it could get, this beauty puts your desktop in the palm of your hand to make it even better. Some iPhone apps let you connect to your computer. This app practically is your computer.

Bloom – Take Brian Eno’s generative ambient music and recreate the experience, and what do you have? Bloom. You drop your fingers on the pastel screen to make simple loops and create your own music, perfect for dancing fingers. This is one of the few iPhone apps that have been created that lets you get creative too.

The Latest in iPhone Apps

Posted by Stan Kermin under iphone tips on Sunday Jan 3, 2010

Just a year after the iPhone app store opened its Internet doors, nearly 60,000 iPhone apps roam the street. Some have a place to go because they serve a purpose. Others just sort of wander around looking for their meaning in life.

Not all iPhone apps are worth paying attention to, but here are a few worth knowing.

1. Hey Where Are You? While you may want to be trailed by the IRS or bill collectors, it helps being connected by letting friends and family know what you are doing and where. This iPhone app allows users to ask and answer the question, “Hey, where are you?” Keep up to date on where you are and what you are doing. Hanging out at the Cheers bar and want to kick it with a crowd? Let the crowd know you are there with the Hey Where Are You iPhone app. Like many iPhone apps available, this one makes it easier to connect and include people in your life.

2. Print and Share. Let’s face it. Most of our printing ambitions are mere pipe dreams. Yeah, I’ll get you that photo of us on spring break as soon as I get home, happen to remember to find you in my millions of computer files and actually hit print instead of falling asleep on the couch in a drool of late night TV. The best intentions usually get put off into infinity unless we act on them right away. With the Print and Share, your iPhone tells your computer at home to get busy printing before you even get home. It’s one of the better iPhone apps that help you get it done today instead of putting off until tomorrow.

3. Read it later. How often do you come across the most interesting web page when your hands are already full? One of the reasons the Internet can be such a big time sucker is what we discover on accident. Come across an interesting web page, and you might not have time to read it, even though you need to learn and probably won’t be able to find the page again. Like many of the iPhone apps available for easier information, Read It Later allows you to save pages to your iPhone so you can check out that article on global warming or bamboo bikes from your cell phone as you ride the bus.

iPhone Apps to Read You to Sleep at Night

Posted by Stanley Brasen under iphone tips on Tuesday Dec 22, 2009

Does your phone read you 16th century love sonnets as you go to sleep at night? With the right selection of iPhone apps, such wonders are possible. Iphone technology makes the impossible possible all the time, from streaming your entire music library to finding the cheapest rates on hotels in Hawaii, all in the palm of your hand.

The fact is that the iPhone is capable of so much that even hard core techies will admit that not all of it is worth doing. Some iPhone apps aren’t worth the time to bother, while others dramatically improve your life. The following iPhone apps, however, are worth the rave.

Yelp – Lost in the city with no place to go? Time to Yelp. This iPhone app will find you the nearest bars, restaurants and banks to whatever locale you’re wandering through. If you don’t like to dive into a bar or restaurant like a bad blind date, you can read thousands of reviews by regular Joe Smoes like yourself who don’t write for the New York times.

NYTimes – Speaking of the New York Times, this iPhone app allows you to stream the voluminous sections of New York City’s biggest newspaper right from your phone. You can find stories by their section or just stream the most popular. Each article comes with full color photos, and the text is surprisingly easy to read on the screen. At this time, there are hardly any other iPhone apps that stream entire media publications, but expect more on the horizon.

Stanza- Stuck on the bus with no book? The Stanza allows you to read the classics, or anything you can find in their large library of public domain files. You can also add lengthy Word or PDF files from your computer, so you can effectively edit your term paper from your cell phone. This is one of those iPhone apps that’s has something for everyone, from college students to corporate lawyers. Don’t expect to find Heathcliff’s Latest Laughs in the public domain, however, if your reading tastes crave the microwaved White Castles of literature.

Jott – Does the iPhone’s digital keyboard cramp your mind? Jott can transfer any voice mail into a text to save you the trouble of typing. Ideal for text messaging, Jott keeps all that button pushing from driving you insane.

There are some fantastic sound effects and you can make this game as difficult or easy as you prefer. This is one amazing game where those who are color blind can also play because you can use the letters mode and the best part is that it auto saves the game when the phone rings.

Here the blocks on the board are slid with one’s fingers and the red block is relieved.
